is certainly a woman who stands out in the commercial real estate industry. Having endured the 2008 financial crisis, Tammy is also known as one of the only African American women to immensely succeed during and after that time. Her accomplishments speak for themselves, coming with years of hard work to get her to where she is today. Tammy holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Cornell University and an MBA from Georgia State University. Although Tammy stuck with an economics track while pursuing her undergraduate degree, it wasn’t until she joined the Financial Management Development Training Program at Equitable Life that her interest in real estate truly began. From there, her love for real estate grew deeper, and she hit the ground running towards success. Tammy was able to attain her first $100 million investment through negotiations with JEMB Realty and in 2009, she founded Basis Investment Group.
Tammy’s passion for providing opportunities to others has carried into her business. 77% of the Basis Investment Group team is comprised of women and minorities. In addition, Tammy founded a nonprofit group called the Basis Impact Group Foundation with the purpose of educating and promoting real estate to underrepresented youth. Bringing awareness of real estate and the various career paths through education is just one way Tammy helps to tackle the lack of diversity within the industry. With the help of her talented team, the business has reached incredible success and has closed over $4 billion in equity and debt transactions across the country. Her passion for the industry speaks volumes through her numerous accomplishments. Tammy was selected by the Council of Urban Professionals as a Finance Catalyst winner in 2019. In addition, she was also appointed as the chair of the board of directors for the Real Estate Executive Council in 2020. She made history as being the first female chair of the association.
