Before the COVID-19 pandemic and the move to working remotely, we at RCN had committed to hosting a food drive for our local
Foodshare food bank to help alleviate hunger in our local Connecticut communities. Then when it felt like everything hit all at once, we knew this was the time more than ever that our fellow neighbors would need our help. So we continued with a “virtual” food drive to raise the money our food banks so desperately need. Foodshare has spent over $225,000 on food alone during April, which is almost as much of what was spent during the entire previous year in 2019, so now more than ever our communities need our help. (Member of Feeding America) is a regional food bank serving Hartford and Tolland counties, as well as the largest anti-hunger organization in the Greater Hartford area in Connecticut. Foodshare is able to connect food to members of our community who struggle with hunger through a network of 280 food pantries, meal programs, and Mobile Foodshare sites. By joining forces with Foodshare, RCN Capital can make an impact on food security for those in our local communities. In these times of uncertainty, it is crucial to remember our community members who rely on food centers to help feed their families and offer a helping hand. So, while we are stuck at home and trying not to absorb all the negative news about the spread of the virus, unemployment rates rising and how food banks are reporting a
70 percent increase in the need for their help we are calling on other members of our industry, and those from other industries to join together to help our communities during these uncertain times and
spread some positivity and neighborly love.
