Meet Our Team - Justin Parker

As part of RCN Capital's 10 Year "Birthday" celebration we interviewed different team members about their time with the company. Let's meet our first team member, Justin Parker, VP of Treasury & Capital Markets.

Hello everyone, I am Justin Parker, and I head up the Treasury and Capital Markets Team here at RCN Capital. I have been with the company for over 3 years now and have been in the treasury and capital markets industry for about 8 years.

How long have you been with the RCN Capital?

I was brought on to RCN Capital by Jeffrey Tesch back in April of 2017, so I have been with the company for about 3 years now.

What do you look forward to the most coming into work each day?

Well as many know, the world of private lending tends to not always be black and white and seemingly everyday presents its own new challenges. So for me personally, knowing that everyday is never the same and there’s going to be a new hurdle that needs to be cleared, that’s really the greatest motivator I can have to get out of bed and go into the office every morning.

How has the company grown since you join the RCN team?

When I started back in 2017 the company was originating around $100M annually, and was comprised of roughly 50 employees. Since then as the team has continued to build on the great brand that RCN had already established, we continued to double growth year in and year out to where last year we originated just under $600M and now have over 100 employees on staff.

Who has had the biggest impact during your time at RCN?

There have certainly been a lot of notable impacts made on me personally, during my career at RCN, but without doubt I would have to say Jeffrey Tesch has been the driver for all of it. His ability to foster a great culture, build up our brand to a nationwide level, and still find time for a vodka with sugar free red bull is pretty much a motivator in itself. And being somebody who, I am willing to admit is a bit hard headed at times, having a leader who is able to consistently push me to new levels that I personally didn’t even know I had in me is something that I am always going to be grateful for.

Biggest accomplishment since working for RCN.

Since I’ve been here there’s really been a significant number of accomplishments that the company has been able to manage through, but if I had to specify one I would probably go to current times and speak to the way we’ve been able to navigate our way through this COVID economic crisis. To pause lending is something I don’t think any of us could have been prepared for. And to be apart of a company where everyone was able to come together and produce a model that resulted in not only zero layoffs, but also the ability to be the first lender back into the marketplace. I think that is something that is always going to be towards the top of my list as it pertains to accomplishments that we’ve seen.

What is your favorite memory you have of your time at RCN?

There have certainly been a ton of great ones whether it be on trade shows or just day to day, but I would say my favorite memories seem to all be tied to the end of year parties that RCN has had. Being in a Charlotte, North Carolina office we don’t to have the opportunity to see many of the employees we interact with on a day to day basis. The ability to have everyone come together in Connecticut during those parties to spend time together, celebrate all of our accomplishments, all of our successes, that is something I am always going to remember and look forward to as time goes on.

Advice for someone who is just starting their career.

One of the things I love about this company is the ability to really build your career to the level you want to build it to. If I were to give advice to someone who is starting their career at RCN I would separate it into two topics.

First always have and know that this company is based on an open mind policy. And what I mean by that is never be afraid to voice your opinion as that opinion could be the next step, or really be the next game changer to take RCN to the next level. And at the same time that also means to value other’s opinions as those may too have the same impact to take RCN to greater heights.

Second, is to really have a strong work ethic. As mentioned prior, one of the great things about this company is your hard work does yield results for you personally on a professional level and that’s not really the case with a lot of companies around the world today. And I think having those two characteristics will really help establish the framework for success if you’re just beginning your career with RCN.
